Distillers grains “lip smacking good stuff” that cattle “knock each other aside” to get to: report
In North Dakota, the Bismarck Tribune profiled the use of distillers grains from the Blue Flint Ethanol plant, which are used at a feedlot operation in Oliver County near Hannover. The DDGs are selling at $74 per ton, comparable to other protein additives. “It’s priced right at the ballpark with everything else,” feedlot operator Josh Albers told the Tribune. ” It’s not critical to our operation, but it is beneficial. It’s an energy booster and cattle love the taste.”
According to the report, the grains taste like baked corn and the cattle “knock each other aside” to get to “the lip smacking good stuff”. The report also said that sales tonnage is higher than the rated DDG capacity of local plants because local farmers prefer a mixture with more moisture left in it.
