Indiana exhausts E85 tax credit fund in first 3 months; state E85 sales prospects look gloomy

In Indiana, a state fund established to support E85 ethanol sales with tax credits has been exhausted in the first 3 months of the program. The 18-cent tax credit was established last year to spur sales at 121 stations selling E85 in Indiana.

E85 is priced at around 5 cents per gallon cheaper than regular gasoline, despite a 15-30 percent lower fuel economy, and sales have slowed according to station owners. E85 was available at just one Indiana station in 2005.
