Continental Airlines to test algae, jatropha in B50 blend in January 7th 737 test flight

In Texas, Continental Airlines set a date of January 7th for a test of algae and jatropha-based biodiesel in a Boeing 737. The airline said that it has worked for nine months on production and testing of its biofuels, and would test a B50 blend in partnership with Boeing, UOP, engine makers GE and Snecma, with Terrasol providing jatropha oil and Sapphire Energy providing algal oil. Continental Airlines Inc. says it will conduct the first biofuel-powered demonstration flight of a U.S. commercial airliner in Houston on Jan. 7.
