$500 billion US stimulus package to include $50 billion for green investments, report says
In New York, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the $500 billion economic stimulus package is likely to contain as much as $50 billion for green related stimulus projects. The stimulus would be spread over a two-year period, and would include tax rebates related to renewable energy, plus smart meters that would allow consumers to benefit in lower rates from shifting electric usage to off-peak periods.
The Environmental Leader is also reporting on a battle in the Obama transition camp over the possible appointment of an energy czar, who would oversee the EPA and the Departments of the Interior and Energy. The energy czar would not, according to reports, oversee the Department of Agriculture, which has shelled out the largest amounts of federal dollars in support of renewable energies, according to observers.
