US News ran a report on the demands by environmentalists that the incoming Obama administration increase research on advanced biofuels, reduce corn ethanol subsidies and tougher emissions standards for biofuels. “We don’t want to see any investments in what we consider to be false solutions, such as biofuels that can increase global warming pollution,” Shawnee Hoover, legislative director for Friends of the Earth, told US News. Environmentalists and the incoming administration agree on the long-term outlook for reduced reliance on first-generation biofuels, but disagree over the timing and nature of the transition.
