In Indiana, the board of the Lake County Solid Waste Management District voted 14-4 in favor of an $80 million, 20-year waste-to-ethanol contract with Powers Energy One of Indiana. The Powers Energy One plan calls for a 70 gallons per ton gasification process. The contract was opposed by a group of local residents, as well as local media and observers who said it would be better to wait for a similar plan elsewhere in the Midwest to be finalized first, that would give officials more information regarding process and yields.
