UN official describes Brazil’s biofuel model as a “win, win, win” for environment, development, commerce

In Brazil, the adjunct secretary general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), called Brazil’s biofuels economic model a “win, win, win” where the “the environment wins, the commerce wins, and development wins too. ”

UNCTAD official Laksmi Puri was speaking at the International Conference on Biofuels in Sao Paulo, and emphasized that UNCTAD’s role was to “help nations to choose the correct model, and all of that needs to go hand in hand with food security.” Also at the conference, delegates said that they, and delegated at more than 50 biofuel forums around the world, were addressing sustainability, jobs, and oil scarcity.”

Marco Jank of Unica told the conference that his organization receives 340 interview requests from media each day because of the social, agricultural and economic impacts of biofuels.
