Green Plains, BioProcessH20 form algae fuel venture; will use Shenandoah ethanol plant’s CO2, heat and water
In Nebraska, Green Plains Renewable Energy announced a joint venture with Clarcor, BioProcessH20 and NTR to commercialize algae fuel production. The new venture will be known as BioProcess Algae, and Green Plains will hold a 25.5 percent stake for it s $1.4 million investment. BioProcess Algae said that it will produce algae at the Green Plains ethanol plant in Shenandoah, Iowa, using heat, water and CO2 supplied by the plant. Tim Burns, president of BioProcessH20 said “By partnering with Green Plains, we will fast-track our plans for the development of an industrial-scale solution for continuous algae production.” Last April, Green Plains had received preliminary approval on a $2.3 million grant from the Iowa Power Fund for algae fuel R&D.
