In Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen officially opened the MH Bio-energy cassava ethanol plant. MH Bioenergy is a subsidiary of South Korea’s MH Bio-energy and will produce less than 6 Mgy of ethanol in its first year of operation. The company owns and operates an 8,000 hectare cassava plantation in Kampong Speu province that provides feedstock for the facility, and also contracts for cassava with local farmers. The $40 million project was initially announced in 2006, and is Cambodia’s first ethanol plant.
