PetroSun outlines catfish farm algae production model for 160 Mgy in Mississippi

In Arizona, algae pioneer PetroSun, in a presentation at the Mississippi Biomass Council, announced a BioFuels Aquaculture Lease Program to contract for the rights to algae produced at catfish farms. The company projected that it could recover up to 2,000 gallons of algae oil per acre, from more than 80,000 acres of catfish farms in Mississippi, with a total yield of 160 Mgy. The remaining biomass would be processed into ethanol, fertilizer or animal feed. The company program includes rent, a royalty from production of biomass and oil, and the potential of carbon credits.
