In Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Renewable Energy announced that it is delaying its 110 Mgy corn ethanol project in East Huntington due to financing difficulties. The company originally proposed a 174 Mgy capacity when the project was announced in 2006, but scaled back as ethanol overcapacity became apparent. A spokesman for the Renewable Fuel Association told Pittsburgh Live that the plant’s cost would be expected to be in the $250 million to $275 million range based on current costs for materials and labor, but said that the financing issues for ethanol construction were a function of the economic crisis and would be expected to ease.
