Minnesota awards $1 million to ethanol partnership for 10 Mgy cellulosic ethanol project
In Minnesota, the state Department of Agriculture awarded a $1 million matching grant to Central Minnesota Cellulosic Ethanol Partners for a “Second Phase Feasibility Study and Detailed Engineering for Commercial 10 Million Gallon Per Year Cellulosic Ethanol Plant.”
The study will support the design of the state’s first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant. The plant will be situated adjacent to the 21 Mgy Central MN Ethanol co-op ethanol plant in Little Falls, and will utilize wood chips as a primary feedstock. The plant will also co-generate power based on a system developed by Bell Independent Power. The partnership is a joint venture that includes the Central MN Ethanol Co-op, Bell Independent Power, and SunOpta.
