In Myanmar, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation announced that it will form a joint venture with the Japan Development Institute and Japan Bio Energy Development Cooperation to produce jatropha-based biodiesel. The capacity of the planned venture was not announced, but Myanmar has set a target of 3.23 million hectares of jatropha under cultivation in 2008, and output is projected at 20 million tons per year. Planting is taking place primarily in Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway provinces.
