In Minnesota, a survey by Hormel Foods has found that 67 percent of Americans say that food prices have increased significantly in the past year, and 61 percent believe that corn ethanol is partly responsible for the increase. The survey found that two-thirds of Americans feel they are losing ground, with inflation exceeding increases in income. 58 percent of those surveyed said that the role of ethanol should be reconsidered in light of rising food prices.
The December corn contract at the Chicago Board of Trade closed yesterday at $3.90, down nearly 50 percent since the June high of $7.65 for the spot contract.
