Algal Biomass Organization, National Algae Association hold same-day conferences, draw industry leadership for focus on research and commercialization
The Algal Biomass Organization and the National Algae Association each conducted major fall conferences this week in Seattle and Houston, respectively. More than 700 industry professionals gathered in the two locations for presentations on chemical and biological research, process engineering and commercialization. Houston highlights included the presentation of a new Algae 2020 survey and market forecast, and numerous discussions on advances in and the ethics of genetic modifications to algae.
Presenters included executives from Algaewheel, Origin Oil, Oilgae, the Universities of Texas and Arizona, and the Air Transport Association. Seattle highlights included addresses by Congressmen Jay Inslee, venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, and senior executives from Boeing, the Renewable Energy Group, Blue Marble Energy, Aurora Biofuels, Solix, Cequesta and Sapphire Energy.
