Ethanol groups commence push for E13, E15 blends; Newt Gingrich, Karen Hughes may work for E15
In Nebraska, the Association of Nebraska Ethanol Producers has requested EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson to permit E15 ethanol blends for non flex-fuel vehicles. The Omaha Herald is reporting on another effort to promote E13, to add 30 percent to the amount of ethanol that can be blended into the fuel supply for non FFVs.
Todd Sneller, executive director of the Nebraska Ethanol Board, said that former Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Undersecretary of State Karen Hughes may be hired to assist in the E15 effort. The Gingrich Group has a working relationship with a bi-partisan team to help the ethanol industry design a public education campaign.
The moves are an outcome of research by the Department of Energy that found no adverse emissions or vehicle damage effects with blends slightly above the current E10 ceiling for non FFVs.
