Description: A2BE arrived on the scene in October 2007 with the announcement that they are pursuing a carbon capture-to-algae solution. At the time, the report was that they were seeking $5 million for an algae-based biodiesel research laboratory and expected to have a commercial-scale plant in 4 to 5 years.

Since then, Mark Allen and Jim Sears have been active on the conference circuit, appearing at the Algal Biomass Organization meeting in November ‘07, the 7th Annual Carbon Capture and Sequestration conference in Pittsburgh, and a meeting hosted in May by Sen. Byron Dorgan in North Dakota.

A prototype system was announced in July 2008 in partnership with Power Ecalene Fuels. The prototype system will combine algae biodiesel production with ethanol from biomass (including, presumably, leftover algae biomass, using a gasification technology. The CO2 produced in gasification will be used to feed the algae production.

Public yield data and business model information have been sketchy to date. As of October 2008, it does not appear that A2BE has secured a customer that they are ready to announce.
