Lignol, Suncor Energy announce $80 million wood residue cellulosic ethanol project for Colorado

In Colorado, Lignol and Suncor Energy announced that they would jointly construct a wood-based cellulosic ethanol plant in Grand Junction. The companies said they would use wood residues, including woods from trees damaged by the pine beetle, taken from the western slope of the Rockies. The $80 million project, which will be partially funded by an $80 million grant from the US Department of Energy, will have a capacity of 3.1 Mgy, or one-tenth of full commercial-scale size.
