US Fire Administration, fire chiefs release ethanol fire training CD

The U.S. Fire Administration has released a CD-ROM for firefighting teams around the country to provide information on containing ethanol fires. Numerous reports have appeared in the past year of firefighting teams lacking specialized equipment and training for ethanol fires, which do not respond to the same methods as used for gasoline or conventional fires.

“Responding to Ethanol Incidents and Ethanol Fixed Facilities and Assessment Guide” is produced jointly by the USFA,  the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Ethanol Emergency Response Coalition. Ethanol fires require the use of alcohol-resistant foams.
