Bunge, Itochu announce $800 million investment in Brazilian sugarcane ethanol

In Brazil, Bunge and Japanese trading firm Itochu annoucned that they will invest $800 million in a pair of Brazilian ethanol and sugar mill operations. Itochu said that it will take a 20 percent stake in the Santa Juliana plant in Minas Gerais acquired originally by Bunge in 2007, and the two companies will construct a second sugar mill with undisclosed capacity. The Santa Juliana plant capacity will be expanded to 4.2 million tonnes of cane, from 1.6 million today.
