Shell announces six academic research partnerships for biofuels

In the Netherlands, Royal Dutch Shell announced six research partnerships with academic institutions, ranging from two to five years in duration, to pursue biofuels development.

The agreements were announced with Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the U.S.; the University of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil; the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing; the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao; the Center of Excellence for Biocatalysis, Biotransformations, and Biocatalytic Manufacture at Manchester University, in England.; and the School of BioSciences at Exeter University, England. The research partnerships will focus on new feedstocks and biofuel technologies to reduce production costs.
