Lancaster Biofuels mulls feedstock switch from corn to barley

In Pennsylvania, executives at the proposed 60 Mgy Lancaster Biofuels ethanol plant said that they are examining a switch from corn to barley as a feedstock. The company, which includes Sir Richard Branson among its investors, said that barley can be double-cropped with soy and grown on as much as 281 square miles of farmland within the feedstock delivery area for the plant.

Osage Energy in Virginia has been pursuing a barley-based feedstock strategy for its plant.
