In California, a driver from Waste Oil Recycling in Redding, discovered siphoning grease from a North State Rendering holding tank, was charged with petty theft. The driver said that he was “doing his job,” and was instructed by management to take grease from the North State tanks. Management at Waste Oil Recycling said that the oil belonged to the restaurant, not the collector, until collection, whether it was taken from another company’s tanks or not, and that his company had permission from the local restaurant to take the grease. “Your trash – your waste – is yours until a proper recycling company comes and picks it up,” the head of Waste Oil told suntimes.com.
