Brazil is readying its challenge of US ethanol tariffs at the Wolrd Trade Organization. The 54-cent tariff is said by the Brazilians to be an illegal tariff under WTO rules. Unica has been working with US-based lawyers on a study of WTO regulations, and Brazilian foreign minister Foreign Minister Celso Amorim told Reuters that “My reading is that we have a very strong case and so there is a good chance we will challenge.” Brazil is also challenging US cotton subsidies.
