Today in Biofuels Opinion: “While ethanol production … is a factor in increased (food) prices, it’s not the driving factor.”

US Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer: “Things have become apparent that while ethanol production … is a factor in increased (food) prices, it’s not the driving factor. Energy, and increased consumption globally, are the issues here that are pushing the show…I think we’re on the right direction, and we’ll stay there.”

Terry Detrick, chairman of Oklahoma Sustainable Energy LLC: “If the grocery business can plant in our minds that the culprit driving rising food prices is ethanol, then instead of increasing the price of bread by 4 cents, they can increase it 30 cents a loaf.”
