Michigan State partners with SunEthanol to speed up cellulosic pretreatment, accelerate scale-up of Q-Microbe technology

In Michigan, MBI International, a development arm of Michigan State University Foundation, will partner with SunEthanol on a scale-up of the one-step SunEthanol cellulosic ethanol fermentation process. SunEthanol employs the Q-Microbe, and includes VeraSun Energy, Battery Ventures, AST Capital and Long River Ventures among its investors. MBI will contribute technology to accelerate the transition of the SunEthanol process by scaling up production, and applying an ammonia fiber expansion process (AFEX) that was developed at MSU and has the potential to speed up cellulosic pretreatment.
