In Canada, the city of Collingwood has filed suit to shut down ethanol production at Collingwood Ethanol, over a smell described as “ranging from burned toast to vomit”. City officials say that the ethanol plant is 107 times the allowed limits of odor units in its Certificate of Approval, and say that the plant has failed to remedy for almost a year despite repeated promises. The company said that unforeseen problems in converting a former starch production facility were to blame.
