Nine hydrogen fuel cell cars complete 13-day trek from Maine to California

In California, nine hydrogen fuel cell powered cars reached Los Angeles Coliseum after a 13-day trek from Portland, Maine to promote hydrogen fuel. The journey was conceived by  USDOT research official Paul Brubaker and inspired by the documentary “Horatio;’s Drive” detailing a 1903 cross-country trek to promote the gasoline-powered car. Honda, GM, Toyota, Ford,  BMW, Daimler, Hyundai, Nissan, and Volkswagen entered cars in the event. However, with only 60 refueling stations available nationally, the cars were hauled on flatbeds for much of the trek, including a  stretch from Rolla, MO to Albuquerque.
