In Barbados, the Brazilian ethanol producer Etanol de Costa Rica said that it would invest in a $36 million, 132 Mgy ethanol project that would refine Brazilian ethanol for export to the US through the Caribbean Basin Initiative. The project is under review by planning officials, who are scrutinizing a proposed 132 Mgy water requirement for the plant, which will convert hydrous ethanol to the anhydrous type used in the US.
