Sekab to establish sugar cane plantation, power, ethanol production in Tanzania

In Tanzania, Sekab Bio-energy Tanzania has proposed a sugar cane ethanol plantation with an estimated capacity of 500,000 gallons per year of ethanol from 400 hectares. The project is located in Bagamoyo District in the Coast Region. The project owners say they have completed planting on half the acreage as well as construction of a 10 million gallon reservoir, and expect to commence ethanol production in 2009. The plant will burn sugar cane bagasse to provide heat and power for ethanol production, and will sell excess power to Tanesco, the Tanzanian utility.
