In Botswana, a proposed 10,000 hectare sugar cane plantation, sugar mill, power plant and ethanol refinery project has been rejected due to environmental impact concerns. The project was proposed by Northern Sugar Holdings for lands in the Kasane Forest Reserve. The Assistant Minister of Agriculture said that the pollution from the project would have adversely impacted the nearby Chobe River system.
