California’s GreenGold Ray Energies increases jatropha plantations in Philippines to 10,000 hectares

In California, GreenGold Ray Energies announced that it would expand its jatropha holdings in the Philippines to more than 10,000 hectares, and the company said that it was gathering samples of jatropha oil from its existing plantations in Southern Mindanao for testing in the US. The company said that it would construct biodiesel plants at each of its Philippine plantations.

• In the Philippines, Japanese and Korean investors have backed the Safi Agro Industries plant to cultivate 50,000 hectares of jatropha, and the company said that it has commenced cultivation of seedlings at a 100-hectare nursery in Sarangani. The company said that  Sarangani Bio will produce 31 Mgy of biodiesel from jatropha oil grown on the plantation.

A farmers group has launched a pilot malunggay nursery near Naga City. The plant produces moringa oil as edible oil and for biodiesel. More on this story…

• Basic Energy will construct a 14 Mgy multi-feedstock ethanol plant at an undisclosed location. Project cost is projected at $70 million, and a Taiwanese investor is said to be associated with the project. More on this story…

Eastern Renewables Fuels said it plans to expand cassava planting to 4500 hectares in 2008 to meet rising demand. The company ships its output to Guanxi province in China.
