59 percent of biofuel execs believe US mandates will be repealed or reduced, survey finds
A survey of bioenergy executives by Climate Change Business Journal found that 59% of respondents believe biofuels mandates will be repealed or adjusted downward in the United States, and 56% in Europe, 60% think cellulosic ethanol will become more cost effective for production than corn or sugarcane between 2012 and 2018, while 20% say “never”.

Chinese researchers discover new process to convert lignin from sawdust into biogasoline, green diesel
In China, researchers have identified a means to convert lignin, the primary component of plant matter and wood, into 8-18 carbon alkanes that can be refined into gasoline or diesel. The scientists reported that they have developed catalysts that breakdown carbon-oxygen-carbon bonds using hydrogen, and “near-critical” (250-300 degrees Celsius) water at pressures of 7000 kilopascals [...]

The Los Angeles Times published an analysis of the Obama energy policy in terms of its impact on the prospects for new energy companies. Mission New Energy announces first annual profit as jatropha unit soars
In Australia, Mission NewEnergy, formerly Mission Biofuels, announced its first annual profit of $2.3 million on total sales of $24.1 million, primarily on sales from its 180,000 acres of jatropha trees.
