Nathan Bomey in the Michigan Business Review: “Now, it looks like the state is turning its hopes toward cellulosic ethanol. Witness Mascoma Corp.’s decision to invest $250 million in a cellulosic ethanol production plant in Chippewa County. Cellulosic ethanol can be produced at a greater energy efficiency rate than corn ethanol. Problem is: The world has exactly zero operating cellulosic ethanol plants right now. Which means that corn ethanol – despite its shortcomings – isn’t going away. At least not for a while.
