Pennsylvania Governor signs first state-level cellulosic ethanol mandate into law
In Pennsylvania, Governor Ed Rendell signed the first state level biofuels mandate with a cellulosic ethanol focus. The new law imposes a B2 mandate when in-state production reaches 40 Mgy, rising to B5 when in-state production reaches 100 Mgy, B10 at 200 Mgy and B20 at 400 Mgy.
On the ethanol side, the state will impose an E10 mandate when in-state supply of cellulosic ethanol reaches 350 Mgy. A study by LECG found that offsetting 900 Mgy of fossil fuels with in-state production by 2017 would add $1.5 billion to Pennsylvania’s economy and create up to 25,000 new jobs by 2017.
