Infinity BioEnergy takes over Sugar Company of Jamaica; Brazilian group to increase ethanol production
In Jamaica. the Brazilian biofuels conglomerate Infinity BioEnergy announced that it will acquire the Sugar Company of Jamaica. The government of Jamaica, which has lost $283 million since purchasing the company in 1998, will retain a 25 percent stake. 13,000 workers will be laid off with the change in control. The company plants will be utilized for ethanol production.
