Methes Energies Canada to close site purchase for 6.6 Mgy biodiesel plant in Ontario
In Canada, Methes Energies Canada said that it would close its $2.2 million purchase of a 22-acre facility in Sarnia, Ontario on May 29, delayed one month to facilitate site clean up by current owners. The site will be converted to a 6.6Mgy biodiesel plant that will showcase Methes’ compact, automated, continuous flow, multi-feedstock biodiesel processors.
Methes Energies opened a 1.3 Mgy biodiesel plant in Mississauga, Ontario in March. The demonstration plant is intended to showcase the company’s Denami 600 biodiesel processor.
Ontario has been best known in biofuels for the 15.8 Mgy Biox biodiesel plant in Hamilton, Ontario. Biox Corp. recently announced
plans for an IPO to raise $150 million in new capital. With the IPO,
Biox will become the first public Canadian biodiesel company. SunOpta
and Lignol Energy are among the handful of public Canadian biofuels
companies. Northern Ethanol said earlier this year that it intends to build a
150 Mgy ethanol plant in Sarnia, Ontario for $210 million. The plant
will commence construction later this year and be completed in 2010.
Northern Ethanol said they would build a second facility in Barrie.
