Judge nixes summary judgment bid for Indiana corn ethanol plant
In Indiana, a judge rejected a request for summary judgment against residents opposing the 50 Mgy Blue River Ethanol Plant in Henry County. The judge said that the lawsuit contained “genuine issues of material fact” that must be tested at a trial. The suit, filed in May 2007, has halted development of the corn ethanol facility.
Also in Indiana, the 65 Mgy POET Biorefining corn ethanol plant in Alexandria officially opened last month. The plant had been accepting shipments of corn for a month.
Meanwhile, Indiana Ethanol Power has commenced contract negotiations with Lake County Solid Waste Management District for its proposed 20 Mgy waste-to-ethanol plant. The plant will use the GeneSyst process to convert solid waste to ethanol. Construction is expected to commence in 2008, and production in 2010.
