Biofuels Digest Index leaps 2.94 percent on ethanol surge
The Biofuels Digest Indexâ„¢ (BDI), a basket of public biofuels stocks, jumped 2.94 percent yesterday to close at 123.63 on an ethanol surge. For the day, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) gained 2.49 percent to close at $44.43, while Pacific Ethanol (PEIX) soared 42.81 percent to $4.57 on strong quarterly earnings that brought VeraSun Energy (VSE) up 18.09 percent to $7.31 and Aventine Renewable Energy (AVR) up 15.38 percent to $5.55.
Among small caps, Xethanol (XNL) also leaped 47.11 percent on the news to $0.559. Overall, advances led declines 3 to 1 for the day.
