In Brazil, the Sugar and Ethanol Industry Association said that 58 percent of the Brazilian sugar crop would be converted to ethanol in 2008, a record. Production is expected to reach 6.4 billion gallons. 56 percent of the sugar cane crop was converted to ethanol in 2007, and 51 percent in 2006.
