The Argonne National Laboratory has commenced an investigation into the conversion of algae into hydrogen fuel, Researchers led by senior chemist David Tiede are investigating a new process that focuses on hydrogenase, an enzyme. In their research, the target is to insert the active catalyst in hydrogenase into the photosynthetic protein framework, to create larger amounts of hydrogen gas The goal? A consistent 10 percent yield. Research is ongoing.
