Ohio awards $4 million in grants to six biofuel research projects
In Ohio, the Third Frontier Commission awarded more than $4 million in grants to six advanced biofuels projects in the state.
Winners included:
Velocys for a microchannel reactor technology to produce transportation fuels from biomass feedstocks, including synthetic jet fuel and diesel; The Ohio State University Research Foundation,for a process modifying biological organisms in order to attain a high butanol tolerance; Arisdyne Systems, for a technology that will improve starch recovery from corn by 2-5 percent; Catacel for improved instrumentation and reactor improvements that will allow simultaneous testing of multiple catalysts; Phycal for a Non-Destructive Algal Oil Extraction Process that could reduce processing costs to a target oil cost of $1 per gallon; the University of Toledo for an improved ethanol fermentation process; The Ohio State University Research Foundation for a carbon-negative to produce hydrogen from biomass.
