In Indiana, Sen. Barack Obama said in a campaign stop in Terre Haute that “Corn-based ethanol is not optimal. I’ve been a big supporter of corn-based ethanol. I come from a corn state — Illinois — and it’s a good transitional technology, but the truth is, it is not as efficient as what the Brazilians are doing with sugar cane.”
In later campaigning in Pennsylvania, he called for more research, development and production of biodiesel, wind, solar and clean coal.

Barack Obama is still stuck on E85 ethanol that gets 25% worse MPG in a Flex-fuel vehicle, if you have one. He also seems to think that the only alternative to corn as a feed stock for ethanol production is sugar cane. He needs to learn about sweet sorghum which can be grown all over the USA for molasses to produce BUTANOL or ethanol. He needs to know that BUTANOL can be used in all our current vehicles and fueling infrastructure with no expensive modifications to replace gasoline, gallon for gallon. He also doesn’t seem to know about cellulose to sugar technology or switchgrass. He cannot change anything without understanding the newest technologies.
