Sea World to trial two hydrogen buses in Orlando
In Florida, SeaWorld Orlando announced that it would deploy two new hydrogen-powered shuttle buses this week, joining a program that provides transport between the Orlando Airport and the Orange County Convention Center. The new buses will be used to transport employees. The hydrogen-fuel bus program was created by a partnership including, Ford, Chevron Technology Ventures, Progress Energy, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The state’s hydrogen refueling station near the Orlando airport will service the buses, part of a 30-vehicle test fleet provided by Ford.
Orlando Mayor Richard Crotty recently said he would support a proposal to convert all Orange County diesel-powered fleet to B20. The Mayor had previously set a city goal of 20 percent reduction of petroleum usage by 2010. The Mayor was speaking at the National Biodiesel Conference, which is meeting this week in Orlando.
Also in Orlando, the Jaws ride at Universal Orlando has converted to biodiesel. The park owners, NBC Universal, said that the switch has resulted in better air and water quality, and a more pleasant smell and water clarity for guests experiencing the Jaws ride.
