Limerick, Pennsylvania abandons trash-to-ethanol project, says technology “not there”

In Pennsylvania, the town of Limerick has discontinued its efforts to build a trash-to-ethanol energy plant. Supervisors had been attempting to acquire a local property to convert municipal solid waste to ethanol process since last October. The town will continue to explore biodiesel and electricity production.

In related news, Lake County (Indiana) Solid Waste Management District Board said last week it was reviewing proposals from Genahol-Powers 1 and Indiana Ethanol Power, both of Evansville, to convert county garbage into ethanol. The J.W. Spear engineering firm, is currently analyzing the technical feasibility of each company’s proposals.
