Kansas opens 6 new E85 stations; total now up to 28 statewide
In Kansas, motorists can now choose from 28 E85 stations, with the opening of new E85 locations in Arkansas City, Burlington, Oakley, Parsons, Thayer and Topeka. The staff of the Kansas Corn Growers Association and Kansas Grain Sorghum Producers Association are reporting no major changes in fuel economy with E85, and the loss in fuel economy is offset by the lower cost per gallon.
The Kansas Department of Agriculture has recently launched a project to offer flex-fuel vehicle owners a choice of E10, E20, E30, E50 and E85 at selected service stations, and will study the fuel efficiency.
A study by University of North Dakota and University of Minnesota researchers released earlier this month showed that cars achieved higher fuel efficiency compared to unleaded gasoline when running on E30.
A new print directory of E85 stations has been released, available from Energy Independence Publications, and listing more than 1000 outlets nationwide and available for $9.95 in a glove-box size.
Several online directories of biofuels have recently emerged, such as Nearbio.com and nearE85.com.
