More details emerge on Energy Bill: deal agreed to extend mileage credit to car makers for flex-fuel vehicle production

In Washington, the Energy Bill is expected to clear the House this week with a provision that extends, to 2020, the 1.2 mpg credit to car manufacturers for production of “flexible fuel” vehicles. The provision was scheduled to be phased out in 2010.

The bill is clearly in its final phases of negotiation, with final negotiations proceeding on restrictions on feedstocks and fuels to ensure they produce at least a 50 percent carbon dioxide reduction.

John Thune (R-South Dakota) said that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told him there would be an energy bill this year that would contain a 15 billion gallon ethanol mandate by 2015.
