Sen. McCain becomes first major US presidential candidate to oppose ethanol subsidies
In Iowa, Arizona Senator and US Presidential candidate John McCain said that he opposed government subsidies on ethanol. He became the first major candidate to oppose subsidies, although he did not comment on the Renewable Fuel Standard which governs mandates on ethanol usage.
Speaking at the same renewable energy conference in Ames, Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd said that he favored a $50 billion corporate carbon tax, which would be used to fund alternative energy investment.
Delaware Senator Joe Biden said that he would require carmakers to produce more flex-fuel vehicles and require gas stations to carry E85 ethanol.
