In Texas, Tetra Point Fuels won approval for an 5 Mgy ethanol plant that will convert expired or defective soda, beer, sports drinks and other sugary liquids to ethanol. Texas currently has one plant producing ethanol, in Cleburne.
In Scotland this past August, Abertay University has received a grant which will be used to develop means of converting beer and whiskey residue into ethanol. In July, In Japan, Kirin announced plans to use beer production residues as an ethanol feedstock.
