Local officials give green light to Virginia biodiesel project, red light in Indiana

In Indiana, the St. Joseph County planning commission recommended that the county council turn down a rezoning application by Bio-Diesel Enterprises for its proposed soybean oil biodiesel plant. Biodiesel is also considering locations in New Carlisle, Plymouth and LaPorte.

In Virginia, the Chesapeake council voted to approve the Smiling Earth biodiesel plant, based on SE-Energy following 48 stipulations, most regarding fire and emergency preparedness, processing of  raw animal fats or plants on their site to prevent odors, site run-off prevention and environmental studies on neighboring wetlands.

    1. I am glad Virginia is joining Noh Carolina in the biofuels area. he stipulations about processing of raw anuimal fats and plants is very interesting and needed to make the manufacturing/refining of all biofuels palatable to the citizens near these plants. T he air qaulity NEAR THESE PLANTS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS WE HAVE HAD FROM LOCAL CITIZENS–INFACT FLEW A MAYOR AND A COUPLE OF HOSWEIVES FROM nORTH cAROLINA TO PRODUCING PLANT IN iNDIANA–JUST TO “SNIFF THE AIR” wE GOT THE BUILDING PERMIT.
